Eliza Park International is looking forward to a surge of winners by its Group 1 winning stallion Wanted this season.
His first of the new term arrived at Flemington on Saturday when Most Wanted made an auspicious debut at headquarters. “He won it on raw ability,” trainer John Sadler said. “It was a big ask over 1400 metres – he was never on the bit – but closed off with some very good sectionals.
“He’s a big gangly athletic type and needs to mature but he certainly has started off in promising style.”
Most Wanted (3g Wanted – Ripping Nic by Encosta de Lago) is a homebred for Owen Egan and was under offer to Hong Kong until last week. “I wasn’t sorry to see the sale fall through,” Sadler added. “He certainly has a future and I rate him a prospect for the autumn.”
Wanted kept pace with Australia’s leading second-season sires in 2014-15 despite smallish crops of 59 and 74 foals from his first two books. He sired 130 foals in his third year at stud and no other Victorian based stallion has that many new-season two year-olds.
Next best on that list are Reward For Effort (124), Moshe (123), Stryker (119) and Artie Schiller (108).
Wanted was popular at the major yearling sales earlier this year with colts purchased by Gai Waterhouse ($220,000 – Gold Coast Magic Millions) and Team Hawkes ($180,000 – Inglis Melbourne Premier).
The Team Hawkes colt is from Sydney Group 2 performer Shirl Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) and he has been named The Cheetah.
Wanted (Fastnet Rock) won a G1 Newmarket Hcp (defeating Starspangledbanner) and he stands for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee at Eliza Park International.
