Hallowell Belle has returned to the Randwick stables of Gai Waterhouse and will race first-up in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm this Saturday.
Perth based owner Craig Thompson sent Hallowell Belle to Waterhouse after the filly made $170,000 at the 2010 Inglis Premier yearling sale in Melbourne.
Hallowell Belle (3f Starcraft – Bella Inez by Beautiful Crown) finished second in the LR Gimcrack Stakes on debut at Randwick before transferring to Peter Moody’s Caulfield stables.
After finishing second to champion colt Sepoy in the G1 Blue Diamond, Hallowell Belle spelled for 23 weeks and returned to win her maiden at Seymour first-up in August.
She then finished runner-up in the Listed MVRC Crockett Stakes, G2 VRC Danehill Stakes, G3 MRC 1000 Guineas Prelude and G1 ATC Flight Stakes.
Waterhouse and Thompson mapped out an autumn campaign for the filly before meeting again at the Perth Magic Millions this week. They have entered her for G1 assignments in the VRC Newmarket Hcp on March 10 and the ATC Doncaster Mile on April 21.
Hallowell Belle is by Arrowfield sire Starcraft and her dam Bella Inez is a sister to G1 Caulfield Guineas winner In Top Swing. The mare has a yearling filly by Sebring and was covered by Starcraft’s G1 winning son Star Witness last year.
Moody would have been disappointed to lose Hallowell Belle. “Her form was excellent without winning,” he said late last year. “She deserves a change of luck – six seconds in eight starts is enough!”
Hallowell Belle’s rivals in the Light Fingers include the Patinack Farm feature winners Pane In The Glass and Kneeling, flying filly Karuta Queen and G1 Flight Stakes winner Streama.
Gai is also preparing a Starcraft – Seducation filly who is pleasing in private at Randwick. The unnamed youngster was a $180,000 buy for Star Thoroughbreds at the 2011 NZB Karaka yearling sale. Her dam is a Danehill sister to G3 AJC Frank Packer Plate winner Afraah.
