Swettenham Stud sire Hold That Tiger is on the crest of a winning wave in both hemispheres and his first Group 1 winner could be just around the corner.

His Canadian based gelding Jungle Wave will be set for the G1 Woodbine Mile by trainer Sid Attard after scoring a game win in the G2 Play The King Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.  The $1 million G1 Woodbine Mile will be run at the Toronto track on September 20.

Jungle Wave (4g Hold That Tiger – Darien Blue Wave by Cure the Blues) fended off all challengers down the long Woodbine straight under champion jockey Todd Kabel.

“He was in control at all times,” Kabel claimed.  “I don’t want to get too high on this horse, but I told Sid he might have a Woodbine Mile horse here.  I’m just a passenger on him.”

Jungle Wave launched his career with trainer Jerry Hollendorfer in California last year, winning two of his five starts before arriving in Canada last November.  He won first up in May and was then claimed by Attard for $62,500.

The Kentucky-bred was runner-up to 2008 Canadian Horse of the Year Fatal Bullet in the Bold Venture Stakes (1300m) in July and then set a Woodbine track record for 1300m when clocking 1:13.27s on August 8.  Saturday’s G2 win increased his earnings to $344,472 from a 11-7-1-1 scorecard.

Jungle Wave is from the first crop of Hold That Tiger and he went through the sale-ring for the first time when making US$140,000 as a weanling at the 2005 Keeneland November Sale.  His older half-sister Castle Mountain (Mountain Cat) was a Listed winner of the Supernaturel Stakes at Hastings Park in Vancouver.  They are out of a half-sister to the dam of Fleet Renee (Seattle Slew), a G1 winner of the Mother Goose Stakes and Ashland Stakes.

Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat) has sired 160 individual winners at a 57% strike-rate.  He will stand for a $9,900 (inc gst) fee at Swettenham Stud this year.
