Katsuro and Illustrious Tycoon completed a winning double and a successful week for Belmont Bloodstock (FBAA) and Woodside Park on Saturday.

Katsuro (I Am Invincible) had won first-up at Ballarat in February and was knocking on the door in town before claiming the Dominant Hcp (1200m) at Moonee Valley.  Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy bought him for $80,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions March Sale on behalf of Woodside Park owner Mark Rowsthorn.

Gabbedy teamed up with Woodside Park to purchase five mares for a total spend of $387,000 at the Magic Millions National Sale last week.  They will be covered by Woodside Park’s new shuttle sire Cable Bay later this year.

Irish-bred Cable Bay (Invincible Spirit) has just finished his second season at Highclere Stud.  His first southern book will include Belmont Bloodstock’s six-figure buys Tiz My View (Snitzel) and Berkeley Gardens (Bernardini).

Illustrious Tycoon can live up to his name after an outstanding debut victory in the WA Day Plate (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.  The front-running 2yo colt is a son of Woodside Park’s champion sire Written Tycoon.

Gabbedy bought him for long-time client Brian Morris for $120,000 at the 2016 Perth Magic Millions.  His dam Illustre (Pentire) is a half sister to Primus.

“Brian asked me for my pick of the sale,” Gabbedy recalled.  “It was an easy answer as the colt was a standout physically and he oozed quality and presence.  He’s very athletic with a deep girth, powerful hindquarter and great size and strength about him.”
