Bill Mitchell Bloodstock (FBAA) has kept the winter winners ticking over while waiting for spring prospect Curdled to return in the new season.

His yearling buys Invincible Knight (I Am Invincible) and Special Missile (Smart Missile) both scored stylish wins in June for the Chung family and trainer John Thompson.

INVINCIBLE KNIGHT came from the back of a capacity field to blitz a Rosehill Benchmark 78 with 61kg. It earned him a start in the LR Civic Stakes last Saturday and he was far from disgraced finishing fourth to Gold Symphony.

“He’s going good and there was a lot of credit in the win,” Thompson said after the restricted company result. “He had been unlucky first-up when hitting the line only to run out of room.”

Mitchell bought Invincible Knight for $140,000 at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale and his rise through the ranks began this time last year with a hat-trick at Kembla Grange, Wagga (Murrumbidgee Turf Club Guineas) and Canterbury.

His dam Luminary (Encosta de Lago) won at Moonee Valley and is a blood-sister to Flemington stakes winner Examination.

SPECIAL MISSILE won a Warwick Farm maiden to pay the first instalment of a $180,000 price-tag at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions. “He’s been knocking on the door,” Thompson explained. “He’s been consistent and has been getting that little bit better each run.

“He struggled to get through a bottomless track at Wyong last time and hopefully the win gives him a bit of confidence going on from here.”

Special Missile was bred by Greg Perry at Vinery Stud and his dam Quiet Meadow (El Prado) was a Florida stakes winner before arriving in the Hunter Valley. Her three-quarter brother Lord Admiral won Group races in Ireland and Dubai before retiring to stud in India.

While Thompson’s stablemates were saluting, Mitchell was examining the spring carnivals in his role as racing manager at Segenhoe Thoroughbreds. The Scone stud and its Randwick stables have an exciting team in search of 3yo scalps including last-start stakes winner Curdled.

“He’s a progressive type and should develop into a better horse with a spell,” Mitchell predicted after the LR Winning Edge Stakes at Doomben. “We will put him away and look for the right races next season.”
