Woodside Assault at Tattersalls

Irish-bred stakes winner Rebel Assault will be exported to Australia after selling for 120,00gns at this week’s Tattersalls December Mare Sale in Newmarket.

Belmont Bloodstock’s (FBAA) Damon Gabbedy bought her for Woodside Park owner Mark Rowsthorn to be covered first-up by Written Tycoon. A homebred for Christine Budden, she bows out after a busy career with trainer Mark Johnston. It was by highlighted by a LR Rockingham Stakes (1200m) victory at York in October 2017

Rebel Assault (3f Excelebration – Naomh Geileis by Grand Slam) was offered by Kingsley Park and cost the equivalent of AUD 222,600. She hails from the family of Coolmore shuttler Oratorio (Ire) and her dam has a rising 2yo filly by War Command.

Mark Pilkington Management (FBAA) paid 100,000gns for Moon Eyes (GB) in conjunction with De Burgh Equine. The 6yo daughter of Oasis Dream changed hands in foal to Galileo champion Churchill (Ire) who is just finishing his first southern book at Coolmore Stud.

Moon Eyes has a rising 2yo colt by Dutch Art and foaled an Acclamation filly earlier this year. She is a half-sister to last month’s G1 Prix de la Foret winner One Master (Fastnet Rock).

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said results from the December Sale, which concluded on Thursday, were genuinely positive with turnover just a fraction below the wide-margin record last year. “The upper sector of the market has been truly vibrant in all categories and the abiding memory from this week has been the extraordinary competition for the outstanding fillies and broodmares.

“We were conscious that the catalogue perhaps lacked the depth of the 2017 renewal which featured the Ballymacoll Dispersal. But Tuesday’s session all but matched last year’s spectacular levels, with buyers from every continent in the world all making a significant contribution to a truly memorable session.”
