Exciting filly Best Yet to Come has earned an important stakes victory for Woodside Park Stud in the LR Princess Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Mat Ellerton – Simon Zahra trained filly finished relentlessly to edge out roughie Quest for Peace with favourite Little Bit Ditsy close up in third place.

Best Yet to Come (3f Econsul – Simply The Best by Kingdom Bay) was positioned one off the fence by Jason Taylor from barrier 14 and he angled her out of the ruck to find clear space in the straight.

The victory was particularly sweet for Woodside Park’s general manager Murray Tillett who hatched an ambitious plan to send the lightly-raced daughter of Econsul to Brisbane in a bid to win valuable black type.

“We looked at the races available and felt she could be competitive in the Princess Stakes,” Tillett said.  “We asked the question and fortunately Matty and Simon were amenable – it’s an unbelievable result.

“We bred this filly at Woodside Park from our former stallion Econsul and still have her mother so this is just a great result for the farm.”

The victory is also pleasing given the strong relationship between Woodside Park and the Ellerton – Zahra stable.  “Matty and Simon have been big supporters of our emerging pre-training and breaking in business and we’ve had a good run with a number of winners coming via our system.  We’re rapt to enjoy this success with them and hope there is much more to come.”

Best Yet to Come is the inaugural stakes winner for Caulfield Guineas winner Econsul who spent five years at Woodside Park Stud before he transferred to Darling View Thoroughbreds in Western Australia.

Her dam Simply the Best (NZ) has done a good job at stud and had already produced the stakes placed sprinter Simply Put (Charge Forward).  The mare has a 2yo sister to Best Yet to Come which has been retained by Woodside Park Stud and is presently in foal to Darley stallion Helmet.

Woodside Park Stud will offer a yearling half-sister to Best Yet to Come by proven stallion Domesday at the upcoming Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in June.
