Northern Meteor stakes winner Sports Edition is a late addition to the Wyndholm Park roster at Ballarat this year.
A homebred for the Cojuangco family, he was runner-up to stablemate Almalad on debut at Randwick in May 2014 before travelling north for a Listed victory in the Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
“He’s a stunning type and has always had a lot of ability,” jockey Tommy Berry said after the Hampden Stakes. “He has taken a little bit of time to grow up and mature but he was a relaxed horse today and that was the difference.”
Injuries sidelined Sports Edition for over a year and he didn’t fire in four subsequent starts last season. “A lovely big, strong, burly type,” Waterhouse recalled. “He sat outside the leader in Brisbane and absolutely powered to the line. I was just so impressed with the way he had his mind on the job for the entire race and the way he extended when asked.”
Sports Edition (5h Northern Meteor – Newscaster by Marscay) is a brother to Amanpour (G1 ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes) and a half-brother to Turf Express (LR VRC Myer Spring Stakes).
Wyndholm Park’s Kim McKellar will stand Sports Edition for a fee of $9,900 (inc gst) alongside Crackerjack King (Shamardal), Floral Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Rebel Raider (Reset).
