Yulong Baby shines at Flemington

Punters are taking a shine to the green and white colours of Zhang Yuesheng and they were rewarded when Yulong Baby and Killarney Kid both saluted as well-supported favourites at Flemington on Saturday.

Mr Zhang is building top-end breeding venture at YuLong Park at Bayles in Victoria and Yulong Baby is destined to join his broodmare band at the 175-acre property south-east of Melbourne.

Yulong Baby (5m Commands – Paris Tryst by Fusaichi Pegasus) has a blueblood pedigree – her second-dam is Hall Of Fame mare Let’s Elope – and she appreciated the step up to 2000 metres for the first time this prep in the VRC Member Paul Tamburro Hcp.

“She tries her heart out and goes right to the line,” trainer Mick Price said.  “She’s racing very well and hopefully it continues.”

Yulong Baby has won over $206,000 since graduating from the 2013 Magic Millions National yearling sale for $42,500 and connections will endeavour to pick up some black-type before she retires to Yulong Park later this year.  Her dam Paris Tryst is owned by Kevin and Colleen Bamford and they’ve since bred another two colts from the mare by their Melbourne Cup winner Americain.

Meanwhile, Price and YuLong Investments are looking forward to the spring carnival with their unbeaten colt Yu Long Sheng Hui.  The Sebring 3yo is heading for the G1 Caulfield Guineas after a winning at Wodonga and Caulfield during a short winter campaign.

Mr Zhang also has a vested interest in the Price-trained G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Extreme Choice who is being set for a first-up tilt at the G1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.  He bought the colt’s dam Extremely (Hussonet) for $735,000 at the Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale in May.
