Zamorar primed for Sir John Monash Stakes

Victorian-based sprinter Zamorar has only missed a place once in his last 7 starts and trainer David Bourne believes he’s overdue for a deserved victory.

The breakthrough could come this Saturday when Zamorar runs in the LR Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield.  “He’s a good, honest consistent horse,” Bourne said.  “His turn isn’t far away.”

Zamorar (4g Scandal Keeper – Chloris by Scenic) is a son of Yarradale Stud resident Scandal Keeper who sired his latest winner when Underhanded saluted at Northam on Thursday.

Zamorar won 4 of his first 8 starts but hasn’t improved that strike-rate since a Caulfield victory Caulfield in May 2012.  He was third in last year’s Sir John Monash won by Platelet and then ran further placings in the Bletchingly Stakes and Lawrence Stakes.

This year’s Sir John Monash includes in-form sprinter Happy Galaxy and G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis.  They are equal $3.40 favourites ahead of Zamorar ($9) who is the only other runner under double figures.

Yarradale Stud will stand Scandal Keeper for an $8,000 (plus gst) fee this year.
