Zenyatta booked to Gainesway Farm sire Tapit

USA Horse of the Year Zenyatta has been booked to Kentucky stallion Tapit.  The Street Cry mare foaled a Bernardini colt on March 8.

“Zenyatta’s pedigree is a great match to the A. P. Indy sireline,” owner Jerry Moss said.  “In choosing Tapit, we think it will be a dynamic mating.  Bernardini is a son of A. P. Indy and we are thrilled with her colt.”

Tapit is by A. P. Indy sire Pulpit and he was a G1 winner of the 2004 Wood Memorial before retiring to Gainesway Farm the following year.

Tapit finished third on the North American sires’ premiership last year with G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Hansen leading the charge.  The grey colt was his sire’s third Breeders’ Cup winner in his first four crops following Stardom Bound (2008) and Tapitsfly (2009).

Hansen is currently on the second line of betting behind Union Rags for the Kentucky Derby.  His final lead-up for the Churchill Downs classic is scheduled for the G1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on April 14.

Tapit stands at for a $125,000 advertised fee at Gainesway and his book is already full this year.
