Disco Miss double for Alwyn Park

Alwyn Park owner John Andrew came off another successful Perth Magic Millions Sale to breed a double at Belmont on Wednesday from his Group 2-winning producer Disco Miss (Zeditave).

Disco Miss is the dam of G2 Perth Cup (2400m) winner Buster Bash (Trade Fair) and her stud strike-rate improved to 9 individual winners from 10 to the races when the David Harrison-trained Can’t Catch Me (Gingerbread Man) led at every call in the Wittens Irrigation Maiden (1300m) on Wednesday.

An hour later, her younger half-brother and stablemate Buster Biff (Jimmy Choux) scored for the second time this prep after sharing the spoils with Eternal Romance (Reliable Man) in the Western Racepix Hcp (2100m).  “I’m happy with the dead-heat because I thought the other one might have got him on the line,” Harrison confessed.  “It was a good effort and he dug deep for Holly (Nottle).

“We might give him a couple more runs over longer distances and then put him away.  The heat didn’t seem to worry him today and he can go all day!”

Buster Biff races in the Royal Blue & Pink colours of part-owner Keith Biggs and the second win in six starts sent his embryonic earnings to $58,342 including Westspeed Bonuses of $28,950.  He’s a 3yo son of former Roselee Stud sire Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park).

A year earlier, Andrew had bred Can’t Catch Me using Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) over Disco Miss.  A Can’t Catch Me profile can be viewed here

Andrew bought a bargain when he paid Turangga Farm owner Stuart Ramsey $4,500 for Disco Miss in 2014.  She had retired unraced but her British-bred dam Dance Play (The Minstrel) is a three-quarter-sister to G1 English Derby winner Secreto (Northern Dancer).

The Alwyn Park consignment to the Perth Magic Millions finished on the Top 10 leader-board for averages ($83,583) and the 12 lots that changed hands reached seven-figures ($1,003,000).  Top of the dial was the Playing God colt from Clear Blue Sky (Lot 147) that made $260,000 to the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

He was sold as agent for Anita Vale Stud as was his Playing God full-brother who topped Day 1 of last year’s Perth Magic Millions when bought by Idan Young for $450,000.  He’s named God’s Hammer and is with Dan Morton at Ascot.  Their dam Clear Blue Sky (Sessions) is an unraced half-sister to G1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) winner Portland Sky.

Alwyn Park sire Maschino also reached a sale-high of $260,000 last week when Trevor Andrews bought the half-brother to RL Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1200m) winner Twisted Steel (Rommel) from Ruby Racing & Breeding.
