Greenfields catalogues colts by Manhattan Rain

Tony Patrizi has all the bases covered with Manhattan Rain and he returns with another two colts for the Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling Sale on Sunday week, June 22.

Patrizi owns Greenfields Lodge in the south-west at Capel and he bred Manhattan Rain’s first black-type winner in WA when Man Crush claimed the LR Miss Andretti Stakes (1200m) in January.  He’s continued that support retaining the yearling full-brother to Man Crush and also welcoming his full-sister last September.

The Greenfields Lodge yearling colts catalogued for the Swan Valley are from Shape Shifter (Lot 20) and Corrilya (Lot 44) and there’s another three yearlings from Manhattan’s Rain’s home-base at Geisel Park that were previously previewed here.

The Manhattan Rain – Shape Shifter (War Chant) chestnut colt is the first foal of a Belmont winner closely related to Group 1 winning sire Kuroshio (Exceed And Excel).  “He’s a nice type but needed time,” Greenfields Lodge manager Lachlan Donnelly said.  “He’s correct and has grown into a very strong boy.”

The Manhattan Rain – Corrilya (Blackfriars) colt is a half-brother to recent Ascot 2yo winner Perfect Sister (Gingerbread Man).  “He would have been the right fit for the February Sale but going through now is a plus with Perfect Sister on the page,” Donnelly explained.  “He’s strong, straight and a good size.”

Manhattan Rain’s 3yo division received another addition on Monday when Everain scored an authoritative three-length victory in the Sportsbet Maiden Plate (1200m) at Mornington

Everain is trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman and was resuming on a Heavy 9 after a debut fourth at Ballarat in November.  “He had been trialling well and his class made all the difference in the messy conditions,” Sam Freedman said.  “He was challenged and kept finding even though he was looking around in the straight.

“He’s big and strong but still raw and should handle a mile in time.  He’s by Manhattan Rain and that will help as we take him through the winter months.”

Manhattan Rain sired Everain from Every Faith (Not A Single Doubt) who won the LR Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville in 2014.  He’s a homebred for Barry and Barb Saunders and their black silks with pink spots were carried to a Group 1 victory at Ascot when Voile D’Or (Dieu D’Or) won the 1999 WATC Derby.

Meanwhile, Manhattan Rain’s 3yo filly Benagil has been withdrawn from the G2 Q22 (2200m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.  She will winter in the Sunshine State before returning home to Melbourne for a late spring campaign targeting the G1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November.

Benagil looked a good thing beaten when placed in the G1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday but trainer Glen Thompson made the decision not to back-up before acceptances on Wednesday morning.

Manhattan Rain (Encosta de Lago) is a half-brother to Australian Champion Redoute’s Choice and stands for a $5,500 service fee at Geisel Park alongside Aysar ($8,800) and Winning Rupert ($6,600).  Stud manager Conor Dunlop can be contacted for bookings or further details on 0447 434 735.
