Ladies break Sound barrier at Bunbury

The Sound Of Speed came through loud and clear when a promising youngster by that name bolted in at Bunbury on Wednesday.

A hollow victory in the Vision Air & Ice Maiden (1000m) also resonated with trainer Trevor Andrews.  “Sound Of Speed won by three lengths beating a quality field.” Andrews posted on Facebook.  “Great to get a win on the board and sure there’s plenty more to come for all the ladies involved.  Enjoy the champagne.”

Sound Of Speed (2g Microphone – Jemerica by Captain Rio) was bred by Darling View Thoroughbreds Director Clive Atwell and is owned by a Ladies Syndicate that includes his wife Trish and daughter Janelle.

Andrews bought him from Western Breeders’ Alliance (as agent) at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions and his wife Joanne manages the 20-strong clique that chipped in $60,000 on Day 1 of that Swan Valley Sale.

Sound Of Speed is a son of Microphone (Exceed And Excel) who recently transferred from Darley Australia to Brazil where he will cover an initial book at Haras Niju later this year.

Darling View purchased his dam Jemerica with a PPT to Microphone for $90,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.  The mare’s yearling filly by Splintex is with Amy Oliver and her filly foal is by Playing God.

Jemerica is a Caulfield-winning full-sister to NZ Group 1 winner Il Quello Veloce (Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes) and among her earlier foals is Ridgeport Farm’s Ascot winner Piccola Signora (Pierro) who foaled a Rommel colt first-up at Waroona last October.

Darling View Champion Playing God had weighed in with a second juvenile winner this season at Pinjarra on Saturday when the Adam Durrant-trained Playin’it Sweet charged home in the Country Comfort Plate (1300m).

Playin’it Sweet is a homebred for Mingenew-based Rod Cosgrove and won like a filly with a future – just like her dam Sweet Ora (Oratorio) who won 7 city races and $455,000 for Durrant Racing.
