Champion Darling View sire Playing God is in touch with another best-ever career statistic after Tidwell won the Glenroy Chaff Hcp (1000m) at the Belmont midweek meeting yesterday.
Playing God has now sired 26 winners of 43 races with his 3yo division this season and that’s just one shy of his previous best 3yo mark of 26 winners of 44 races in 2023-24.
Tidwell had won a Mt Barker maiden in January and returned for a first-up victory over Sunset Session (Sessions) and Pygmalion (Maschino). He followed Flash Dancer (Hellbent) into the straight and let down like a horse looking for longer trips this prep.
“He’s been going really well at home and will head to a Westspeed Saturday race over 1200m before getting out to a mile,” trainer Steve Wolfe said. “He’s with a lucky mob of owners who also race Rope Them In (Playing God).
Tidwell was bred and sold by Rangeview Stud for $90,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is raced by a syndicate managed by Peter Kerr. He won’t be long paying back that price-tag off a current account of $61,300 that includes Westspeed Bonuses of $29,000.
He’s a younger full-brother to LR Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) winner Rissoles and their dam Snitz ‘N’ Giggles (Snitzel) is a half-sister to LR MVRC Carlyon Stakes (1000m) winner Acromantula (Written Tycoon). Second-dam For Your Eyes Only (Bletchley Park) was a Listed winner of the Gimcrack Stakes, Ascot 1000 Guineas and Beaufine Stakes.
Rangeview’s Rob and Jody Gray also sold the yearling full-brother to Tidwell for $75,000 to Commercial Bloodstock’s Noel Carter who was acting for Wolfe at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.
“We got a nice cart into the race and the soft track helped,” winning jockey Shooter McGruddy said. “Wolfie’s horses usually take a prep to learn what they’re doing and there’s obviously lots of improvement in this one.”
