Singapore star Better Than Ever increased his unbeaten streak to 12 after yet another thumping victory in the G1 Raffles Cup at Kranji on Sunday.
Last year’s Raffles Cup winner Cheyenne Dancer led the field while jockey Saimee Jumaat allowed Better Than Ever to settle in sixth spot one off the fence. He was within striking distance on the turn and then skipped clear without ever getting out of second gear.
The Raffles Cup was the second leg of the 2010 Singapore Triple Crown. The Laurie Laxon-trained champion won the opening leg in the Kranji Mile earlier this month and he will attempt a clean sweep in the Singapore Gold Cup on November 14.
Better Than Ever (4g French Deputy – Songfest by Unbridled’s Song) cost $80,000 from the Blandford Lodge draft at the NZ Bloodstock 2008 Premier yearling sale. He is by a former Arrowfield shuttler and has a Darci Brahma half-brother catalogued for the 2011 National Yearling Sales at Karaka.
“I wasn’t too worried he was further behind than usual,” Laxon said after the presentation. “In the home straight, Saimee pulled him out to the best part of the track and the horse did the rest. He tends to wander at times but didn’t run around and went straight to the line.”
Laxon said Better Than Ever would be set for the Dubai carnival after the Singapore Gold Cup.
