2YO treble for Exceed And Excel

Darley sire Exceed And Excel has distanced the rest of the field on top of the Australian 2YO winners’ table.

A hat-trick of new juvenile winners at Doomben and Warwick Farm took his tally to 19 on Wednesday.  Well back in equal second spot are Jet Spur and Stratum on 13 each.

Exceed And Excel started the day with an opening double at Doomben with Excapishe and C’est Lorraine before Darley homebred Pillory made it three at the Farm.

Trainer Trevor Bailey declared promising youngster Excapishe foolproof following the gelding’s explosive four length victory in the Enwise Electrical Handicap (1030m).

Excapishe was spotted by Bailey’s father Alan at the 2010 Magic Million HIT Sale at the Gold Coast last year.  He was initially sold for $16,000 by Murrulla Stud as a yearling but his value increased to $100,000 later that year at the HIT Sale.

“Dad picked him out at the Ready To Run trials and immediately told me I should have a look at him,” Bailey said.  “He’s above average, that’s for sure, and he’s only half wound-up.  He’s always shown plenty but he’s taken a little while to grow into himself.”

Excapishe is a half-brother to Coincidental.  The Catbird gelding won the 2006 Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Hcp and added a Listed victory at Eagle Farm this following year for the Baileys.  Second dam Capishe (Prego) is a full sister to multiple Group 1 winner Primacy.

Bailey is now likely to send Excapishe to Grafton for a 2yo feature on July 14.

Exceed And Excel starred at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting with G2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Best Terms.  It was his seventh juvenile winner in the last four years at the Royal meeting.

Exceed And Excel will stand at Darley Kelvinside for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee this year.  The divisional leader among his 19 Australian juvenile winner this season has been G1 ATC Sires’ Produce and Champagne Stakes winner Helmet.
