Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert topped Day 2 of the Ocala Breeders 2YO Sale on Wednesday with a $300,000 bid for a colt by Stormello.
The Blue River Bloodstock consigned colt had breezed the fastest 400m (20.80s) before the sale. His dam Puff the Magic (Red Ransom) is a daughter of Hawthorne stakes winner Miss Power Puff.
Stormello is a Storm Cat line stallion. He was a G1 winner of the 2006 Hollywood Futurity and his first crop are current 2YOs.
Wednesday’s leader equalled the first-session price for a Bernstein colt bought by Patrice Miller of the EQB Agency. Miller was next best on Wednesday’s leader-board with $200,000 for a Proud Accolade half-sister to stakes winner Too Experience.
Day 2 turnover at the Florida sale was $3.53 million at an average of $21,019. The overall gross for both sessions was $7.12 million at an average of $21,008.
The average was just $350 down from 2010 while the clearance rate improved three points to 72%. A total of 11 horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 7 last year.
