Abastor’s rivals done like a dinner

Viscount has dined out on Rocket Man since the Singapore champion won his maiden on debut at Kranji in October 2008.

Rocket Man was conceived at Woodlands Stud between Jack Ingham’s death and his brother Bob’s clearance sale to Sheikh Mohammed.  At last count, he has won 20 of 27 starts and hasn’t been beaten on home soil since the G1 Kris Flyer Sprint in May 2010.

Viscount produced another promising maiden winner in Singapore on Friday night when Abastor won his maiden in a canter at Kranji.  He cleared out to defeat Kiwi-bred first-timer Naruto (Darci Brahma) by five lengths.

Abastor is from Viscount’s penultimate book at Woodlands before transferring west to Neville Duncan’s Oakland Park in 2008.  His dam Give ‘M The Flick (Marauding) is a half-sister to G1 STC George Ryder Stakes winner Quick Flick (Spectacular Spy).

Viscount stands for a $7,700 (inc gst) service fee.  Miss Andretti’s sire Ihtiram (Ire) is also based at Duncan’s south-west nursery.

Champion galloper Northerly called Oakland Park home before his death on May 9.  Other stars to come off the property include Marasco (Makybe Diva Stakes), Shirazamatazz (WATC Derby), Covertly (Railway Stakes), Roman Time (Karrakatta Plate) and black-type gallopers Grand Nirvana, Paris Petard, Jestatune and All Friared Up.

Viscount was the Champion 2YO of his generation after G1 victories in the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and AJC Champagne Stakes.  He returned at three to win the 2001 George Main Stakes at Randwick before a career-high third to Northerly and Sunline in a hair-raising finish to the W S Cox Plate.

Viscount (Quest For Fame) is still only a 13 year-old and he has sired 238 winners of 609 races at a 58% strike-rate.  They have won a total of 609 races and 26 of them have been in black-type events.
