Accelarometer primed for Stewards’ Cup

Former Perth galloper Accelarometer is set to make his Singapore debut in the G2 Stewards’ Cup (1400m) at Kranji this Sunday.

Accelarometer (4g McFlirt – Recoverable by Metal Storm) is a homebred for Mungrup Stud owners Gray and Jan Williamson and he first came to attention in June 2012 when runner-up to Rohan in the LR Belmont Guineas.

Following a winter spell, he bolted in at Bunbury and then added another two convincing victories at Ascot before Xmas.  Connections decided to send him off-shore when it became apparent he would be better off in Singapore.

The McFlirt gelding arrived in February and has pleased trainer Shane Baertschiger.  “Early on, he was a bit light and we had to rectify some hoof problems,” he said.  “But he’s put on weight and his feet are right…now he’s ready to race after two trials and a jump-out.

“He’s done enough to show me he’s a nice horse.  He prefers to come from off the speed and hopefully that’s how Johnny (Powell) will ride him on Sunday.

Accelarometer will follow the Triple Crown trail after the Stewards Cup with further assignments in the G1 Patron’s Bowl (1600m) on June 30 and the G1 Singapore Derby (2000m) on July 14.

His sire McFlirt is a NZ bred son of Kaapstad who has been a consistent winner-getter for the Williamson family since he retired to stud in 2001.  His dam Recoverable is by Mungrup’s Champion WA sire Metal Storm and she is a half-sister to Mungrup bred Listed winner Eastern Zone (Warring Nations).
