Acclamation colt tops Tattersalls yearling sale

An Acclamation colt topped yearling trade when the Tattersalls December Sale commenced on Monday.  He was knocked down for 140,000 guineas to Darley agent John Ferguson.

Consigned from Rathbarry Stud, the colt is out of stakes performer Musical Bar (Barathea) who is a half-sister to English and Irish 1000 Guineas winner Finsceal Beo and Sheikh Mohammed’s German 2000 Guineas winner Frozen Power.

“He is a very athletic type, who could easily be a two-year-old,” said Ferguson.  “He is from a family that has been lucky for us and for many others, and is from a very good farm which consistently breeds good horses.”

Acclamation was Europe’s leading sire of two year-olds in 2011 with an amazing 37 winners of 56 races.  And his son Dark Angel was Europe’s 2011 Champion first-season sire in the winners’ category.

Another son – Swettenham Stud shuttler Equiano – has 31 first crop weanlings catalogued for the Tattersalls Foal Sale which starts on Wednesday.

The one-day yearling sale saw a total of 167 lots sold for 3.59 million guineas.  The average dropped 14% to 21,529 guineas and the median plummeted from 20,500 guineas to 13,000 guineas.  The clearance rate improved 5 points to 76%.

A Sea The Stars – Daneleta colt would have topped the leader-board if buyers had met Airlie Stud’s reserve of 145,000 guineas.  The Tattersalls December Foal Sale starts on Wednesday.
