Vinery smashed the record for its top-priced Inglis Classic Sale yearling when a Trapeze Artist filly made $430,000 at Riverside Stables on Monday.
Catalogued as Lot 352, the filly (pictured) from Zelady’s Night Out (Myboycharlie) was purchased by Suman Hedge Bloodstock. She’s the first live foal from a mare who won a GCTC Bruce McLachlan Stakes Gr.3 and BRC Calaway Gal Stakes LR.
At $430,000, she was Top 3 among fillies on the Classic leader-board behind daughters of The Autumn Sun ($550k) and Fastnet Rock ($500k). There’s more juvenile black-type close-up through her dam’s half-sister Excites Zelady (Excites) in a SA Breeders’ Classic Gr.3 at Morphettville.
“This is an athlete’s sale and she’s a stunner,” Hedge said. “We’re over the moon to purchase such an absolute glamour. She was our No.1 pick of the fillies at the sale and we are excited to secure her from Vinery.”
The previous best Classic result for Vinery was the Stratum – Dayeala colt that sold to Domeland for $280,000 in 2019. Named Much Much Better, he’s still active and paying his way with recent wins at Randwick (2) and Newcastle for trainer Gary Moore.
Vinery’s overall Book 1 figures at the 2022 Classic Sale also created across-the-board records for turnover ($2,395,000) and average ($114,048) off an 88% clearance rate
More Than Ready (USA) did best of the Vinery stallions with 8 of his final southern-hemisphere yearlings selling at an average of $102,500 in Book 1. Top price of $310,000 for the filly from Fracture (Fastnet Rock) was paid by Hong Kong based Eden Wong and Anita Chu.
Bred and offered Highgrove Stud, she’s from an unraced half-sister to Wanted (VRC Newmarket Gr.1) and Shrapnel (SAJC Yallambee Classic Gr.2).
All Too Hard finished right behind More Than Ready with 11 sold for an average of $99,091 topped by a grey colt from Vinery (as agent) for Queensland breeder Neil Jenkinson. Catalogued as Lot 491, he’s a half-brother to Much Much Better and Domeland weighed in with another $220,000 on Monday to continued its association with the family.
The Vinery team travels to Melbourne for its next consignment to the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on February 27 & 28 and March 1. There are 14 yearlings catalogued for Oaklands with 8 sired by More Than Ready (USA).
