Day 1 of the Ocala Breeders’ 2YO Sale in Florida concluded with across-the-board increases on Tuesday.
The average (25%), gross (20%) and median (11%) all advanced on figures from 2010. Trade on the 189 juveniles that changed hands reached $5.51 million at an average of $29,195. The median was $20,000 while the clearance rate dropped five points to 69%.
New Jersey agent Buzz Chace topped the opening session with a $275,000 War Front filly from the stakes winning Pleasant Tap mare Tappin for Gold. He was acting on behalf of Jayeff B Stable.
“She’s by the right stallion and is just a very nice, sound-looking individual,” Chace said. “It looked like there was a lot left in her tank when she breezed (200m in 10.20s). “She got over the track so very well and was so nice around the barn.”
The Kentucky bred filly initially sold for $80,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling auction.
Second on the Day 1 leader board was a $200,000 Kafwain filly that was purchased by Barbara Banke’s Grace Stables. The New York-bred youngster is the first foal out of the winning Chief Seattle mare Seattle Splash. She cost $31,000 at the 2010 Ocala August yearling sale.
The three-day Ocala auction runs through to Thursday.
