Al Maher finishing season with a flourish

Emirates Park sire Al Maher is firing on several fronts in the finals few weeks of the season.

Al Maher sired G3 SAJC National Stakes winner Majestic Music in March and he added another black-type winner when Speedy Natalie powered home for a four length victory in the Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes on July 11.

At the other end of the scale, the G1 Australian Guineas winner is the sire of Jungwon Jepae who completed a winning hat-trick in South Korea on July 24.

Jungwon Jepae (3c Al Maher – L’Extraluche by Leo Castelli) won his third race at Busan since June 7 last Friday.  Owned by Min Uh Sik, he was a $12,000 buy at the 2008 Magic Millions HIT Sale on the Gold Coast.

Jungwon Jepae is from L’Extraluche, an unraced USA bred half-sister to Curragh G2 winner Montelimar (Alleged) and Longchamp LR winner L’extra Honor (Hero’s Honor).  The latter is the dam of G1 Newmarket Sun Chariot Stakes winner Majestic Roi (Street Cry).

Al Maher climbed the first-season sires’ list yesterday when Cosmocrat caused a $20 upset at Cranbourne.  The colt won on protest lifting his sire’s count to 7 individual Australian winners.

Cosmocrat (2c Al Maher – Cosmic Beam by Geiger Counter) is trained by Mick Price and was a $300,000 buy as a yearling.  His dam won six races in Melbourne without earning black-type but she is a half-sister to Egyptian Ibis (Straight Strike) who was a Listed winner at Flemington.  She later foaled Hurricane Sky gelding Grand Delight who went Horse of the Year in Hong Kong.
