Al Maher sired his second Group performer when his first-crop filly Bint Maher finished strongly for a G3 placing in the SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1600m) at Morphettvile last Saturday.

Al Maher will stand for a $38,500 (inc gst) fee at Emirates Park this year.

Bint Maher is trained out of the Adelaide stables of Leon Macdonald and she turned in one of the performances of the day, making strong progress at the end of a mile.

Bint Maher is a daughter of the unraced Palace Music mare Queen’s Choir and hails from the former Baramul Stud family of Gelsomino (AJC Flight Stakes) and Mercury (STC Todman Slipper Trial). 

Another notable performer from this family is Drought, winner of the Group 1 VATC Caulfield Stakes.
Bint Maher follows stablemate Majestic Music into the record books.  He is by Al Maher and was a G3 winner of the SAJC National Stakes (1400m) earlier this year.

Al Maher has sired 4 winner and another 8 place-getters to date.  He is third on the first-season table for individual winners behind Not A Single Doubt and Fastnet Rock.

Emirates Park sire Wily Trader received a further boost to his pedigree when Ghanaati won the English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.  The Giant’s Causeway filly is from the stakes winning Mr Prospector mare Sarayir, a half-sister to the dam of Wily Trader.

In winning the 1000 Guineas, Ghanaati emulated her great grand-dam Highclere who was an exceptional daughter of Queen’s Hussar.  She claimed the 1974 1000 Guineas and doubled up in that year’s French Oaks.

It’s a blue-blooded family and includes Champion 3yo Nashwan, a winner of both the Newmarket 2000 Guineas and English Derby.

Nashwan and his half-brother Unfuwain both sired European G1 Oaks winners during their time at stud, while another son of Highclere by the name of Mukddaam (USA) sired G1 QTC Oaks winner Mon Mekki.
Nayef is another prominent son of Highclere and he is responsible for last year’s Newmarket 1000 Guineas runner-up Spacious.

Ghanaati will now head towards the Coronation Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot and the Champion Stakes (G1) at Newmarket later in the season.

Wily Trader (Marscay – Wily Trick by Clever Trick) is an unraced half-brother to Elegant Fashion, a daughter of Emirates sire Danewin and a feature winner in Australia and Hong Kong.

Wily Trader will stand for a $2,750 (inc gst) fee at Emirates this year.
