Alexander Parade moved Witherwings off the mark as a sire last month and the gelding doubled up in the TJS Cleaning Services Hcp at Cairns on Tuesday.
Part-owned and trained by Ron Duce, the winner was coming off an Innisfail maiden on Caulfield Cup day. He had been placed at Penshurst and Terang before transferring to sunnier climes earlier this year.
Alexander Parade (4g Witherwings – Cedging by County) was bred at Ribblesdale Stud on the Bellarine Peninsula. He is a younger half-brother to the city winners Tehuacan (Maizcay), Conviviality (Bonhomie) and Bon Amigo (Bonhomie) and Alexander Beetle (Rustic Amber).
Alexander Parade is only named foal from the first crop of Witherwings who initially stood at Ribblesdale Stud. Witherwings is a son of Flying Spur and his dam Stella Cadente was a G1 winner of the 1998 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Witherwings is now based nearby at Tintagel Lodge where studmaster Merv Peters stands him for a $2,200 fee.
