Amazing winner by Awesome Rock

Watch Me Rock doubled up at Belmont on Saturday for a Ridgeport Farm partnership that has doubled down with the lightly-raced son of Awesome Rock.

It’s been a great journey going back-to-back with an on-pace victory over Uncle Gerard (Alfred Nobel) and Trio (Maschino) in the Unite Resourcing Hcp (1400m).

Watch Me Rock (4g Awesome Rock – What Choux Want by Jimmy Choux) was bred in partnership by Ridgeport Farm manager Marge Ojapold and Graham White. He is raced by Ojapold, her partner Ben Gudjonsson, Ridgeport principal Santo Guagliardo and Ridgeport team member Angelina Blaskovic.

“He’s an amazing horse to be winning races with after his dam What Choux Want needed a surgery and extra care after his birth,” Ojapold recalled.  “ (Dr) Peter Harding and his team are wonderful at Ascot Vets and she pulled through to raise a strong healthy colt.

“ Grant and Alana (Williams) are brilliant trainers and we jumped at the opportunity to have Watch Me Rock trained out of their beautiful training facility in Karnup.”

Watch Me Rock was rolled as a $1.22 favourite first-up this prep at Pinjarra but made amends at Ascot a fortnight later with Willie Pike getting him home as a $2.25 favourite.  “He has a good bit of ability and there was still something left in the tank today,” Alana Williams said following his third win in seven starts on Saturday.

“He was looking at the scenery and the other horses and didn’t know how to put them away.  He’s still getting it all together and will keep improving as he goes through the grades.”

Pike concurred with that post-race commentary.  “I really have an opinion of this horse in the sense that there are plenty of wins in him.  I was keen to go forward because there didn’t seem to be a lot of speed in the race.  He’s not fully switched on yet but when the penny drops there’s more in store.”

Watch Me Rock’s 3yo half-sister Wotugot (Rommel) was runner-up to Madhi Girl on debut during an initial prep earlier this year for trainer David Harrison.  His yearling half-sister is also by Rommel and Ojapold has entered her for the 2025 Perth Magic Millions.

Ridgeport Farm stands Rommel (Commands) for $6,600 alongside Ducimus (Snitzel) at $5,500.  Both fees (inc GST).  For bookings or more information, contact Marge Ojapold (0497 478 231), Grant Burns (0410 683 470), Steve Hoare (0409 987 970).
