Anabandana sent her residual value soaring with a thrilling victory in the G3 Eclipse Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie on Saturday. The Don Sellwood trained filly started the New Year on a winning note when she edged out Darci Brahma colt Super Easy by a nose.
Anabandana (2f Anabaa – Great Notice by Nureyev) had been very unlucky when placed at her first two outings at Te Rapa. She was a $26,000 buy as a foal out of the Reavill Farm draft at the 2009 Magic Millions National weanling sale.
She is a half-sister to four winners including Gybe (Fastnet Rock), a Listed winner of the 2009 AJC Gimcrack Stakes. Their dam Great Notice is an unraced sister to the dam of King’s Rose who won the G2 Royal Stakes a couple of hours after the Eclipse.
King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice) had won the G1 NZ One Thousand Guineas, G3 Eulogy Stakes and LR Coupland Stakes before making it four in a row on Saturday.
King’s Rose and Anabandana were part of a winning treble for top hoop James McDonald on New Years Day. He also won the opening event on Mr Legs (Ustinov).
Anabandana is by deceased Widden Stud shuttler Anabaa. He is the sire of world-champion mare Goldikova and his Kiwi stock includes Imananabaa who won the G1 Railway Stakes on New Years Day in 2008.
