Westbury Stud resident Faltaat sired a feature double at Ellerslie on Saturday with Miss Raggedy Ann (G1 Railway Stakes) and Fears Nothing (G2 Rich Hill Mile).
Miss Raggedy Ann (5m Faltaat – Miss Pollyanna by Gold Brose) caused a long-priced upset in the Railway for Cambridge based owner Des Hawkins who races her under the Llanhennock Trust banner.
“We bought her dam Miss Pollyanna when she was carrying Miss Raggedy Ann,” Hawkins recalled. “She was a phenomenal racehorse but she was also nuts.”
Miss Pollyanna, who died in 2008, won three races for Colin Jillings and her brother Buzz Lightyear was a G1 winner of the NZ 2000 Guineas and Levin Bayer Classic.
Fears Nothing (5g Faltaat – Magical Moment by Sadler’s Wells) came from well back in the field to win the Rich Hill Mile for Foxton trainers David Haworth and Matt Dixon. “He has his moments but has always shown us plenty,” Haworth said. “We will set him for the double in the Thorndon Mile at Trentham.”
Fears Nothing is from the British bred Sadler’s Wells mare Magical Moment and was a $95,000 buy at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock yearling sales.
Magical Moment is an unraced sister to Longchamp G3 winner Short Pause (Prix d’Hedouville). She has an Excellent Art colt catalogued as Lot 1009 from Pencarrow Stud at the 2011 Karaka Select yearling sale.
Faltaat stands at Gerry Harvey’s Westbury Stud is by champion sire of sires Mr Prospector from Breeder’s Cup Juvenile winner Epitome. Miss Raggedy Ann became his sixth Group 1 winner following Tit For Taat, Taatletail, Sedecrem, Jurys Out and Sight Winner.
Faltaat (USA) has sired a total of 238 winners of 802 races in 14 countries. His winning strike rate is right up there with the best of them at 67%.
