Perth Magic Millions graduate Sistine Angel is heading for higher honours after winning the G2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.
Sistine Angel (3f Testa Rossa – Famous Painter by Peintre Celebre) closed late to win the fillies feature by a head from Brazilian Pulse. Trainer Andrew Noblet said the filly will run in the G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on October 13 but he ruled out a further start in the G1 Victorian Oaks.
“She was a long way back and only just got there on the line,” Noblet said at Flemington. “The Guineas is her main aim and, all going well, we may give her another run in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.”
Sistine Angel was coming off a G3 victory in the HDF McNeil Stakes at Caulfield and her earnings now stand at $272,000. She was bred by Warren Gellard of Kalgoorlie and was a $60,000 buy at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions.
“She is a very athletic filly and had a great attitude at the Perth Sale,” Noblet recalled. “I liked the way she picked up them up today. She lifted and won with a bit in hand at the finish.”
Sistine Angel is by leading Vinery Stud stallion Testa Rossa from an unraced daughter of the stakes winning Rancher mare Rancheetah. The second dam’ other foals include the stakes winners Gallopini and Land Speed Record.
Sistine Angel’s half-brother by AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Excites is being prepared for February’s 2011 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.
