Perth’s Magic Millions connection produced a black-type double at Flemington on Sunday courtesy of Sistene Angel (G2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes) and Eclair Surprise (Listed Super Impose Stakes).
Eclair Surprise (3g Blackfriars-French Scene by Scenic) split rivals in the straight to defeat Almindoro by a long neck with Makybe Diva’s three quarter brother Shadowofexcellence another neck back in third place.
The winner was a $65,000 buy from Durham Lodge at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale. He won on debut at Geelong last month but failed on a heavy track at Sandown second-up.
“He’s still learning,” Moody said after the gelding saluted at $13. “We put the blinkers on hoping he might be able to take up a position midfield – but he walked out of the gates – it adds plenty of merit to the win.
“He’s always shown ability at home and always gave the feel that further he goes the better. His sire Blackfriars won a Victoria Derby and we will give him a chance to win it as well.”
Blackfriars (Danehill) stands at Durham Lodge and he got the Flemington winner from the city winning Scenic mare French Scene. His second dam is G2 Winterbottom Stakes winner French Sound (Ksar).
