Windsor Park stallion Guillotine notched his first win of the new season when Beauty’s Beast scored at Ruakaka on Wednesday.
Beauty’s Beast (3g Guillotine – Black Beauty by Centaine) was too slick for his opposition over 1200m with a runaway three length victory for rider Leith Innes and trainer David Greene.
Innes has made no secret of his admiration for the talented gelding and it confirmed the promise he showed when finishing an unlucky second to subsequent stakes winner Orbity on debut in June.
Greene was thrilled with that debut performance. “It was a huge effort . He’s big and strong and he’s shown plenty right from the start. He will be back here for a Listed race in four weeks then go to the Hawke’s Bay Guineas. He will also be nominated for the 2000 Guineas.
“He’s the first horse I’ve had for Windsor Park Stud and the only horse I’ve got in work by the sire. I gave Dad a heads up a few weeks ago that he had better get his mare booked in to Guillotine quick smart.”
Beauty’s Beast certainly looks the type to give Greene further black type success following his win with High Kin (High Chaparral) in the LR Taumarunui Gold Cup.
Other first-crop runners to create headlines recently for Guillotine are the Laurie Laxon trained colt Daniel and Sydney winning 2YO Brilliant Terror for trainer Bjorn Baker.
Daniel impressed many observers when winning on debut by 7 lengths at Kranji in near record time while Brilliant Terror was subsequently sold following his win to do his future racing from the stable of champion Hong Kong trainer Dennis Yip.
Guillotine (Montjeu) won four races up to G2 level in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley (1600m) before retiring to Windsor Park in 2009. He is a half-brother to Efficient and is bred on the successful Sadler’s Wells – Mr Prospector cross.
Guillotine will stand at Windsor Park for a $7,000 (plus gst) service fee in 2013.
Windsor Park studmaster Rodney Schick also reports the first southern foal by its Coolmore Stud shuttler Pour Moi (Montjeu) was born at the weekend. The bay colt is out of Code Black (O’Reilly), a sister to Malaysian Champion Arenti and a half sister to the G3 winner Crepe De Chine (Pins).
