Dane Belltar made headlines with a winning treble on Saturday and owner Steve Bennetts is also celebrating the arrival of her latest foal by Starcraft.
Dane Belltar (Danewin) won a G3 Auraria Stakes for Bennetts and she was also a G1 runner-up to Special Harmony in the G1 VRC Oaks.
Her earlier foals Tanby (Galileo) and Fawkner (Reset) won stakes races at Flemington on the weekend and Viking Star (Red Ransom) was successful at Morphettville.
The trio were all sold by leading South Australian nursery Mill Park Stud for Bennetts. “She’s been an outstanding mare and we’ve been lucky enough to have bred the last few foals from her in partnership with Steve,” Mill Park’s Chris Watson said. “She is a big grey mare with such a relaxed, laid-back personality.
“It’s that combination of temperament and athleticism that have made her progeny so successful.”
Dane Belltar was empty in 2010 and 2011 before producing a Starcraft filly this season. “She’s at Glenelg Park near Euroa at the moment to be covered by New Approach,” Watson said. “He’s a son of Galileo, so it’s a similar mating to Tanby.”
