Vinery sire Excites has another stakes winner-in-waiting after Excites Zelady scored a slashing victory on debut in Adelaide.
Excites Zelady (2g Excites – Zelady by Zeditave) overcame an awkward getaway to sit behind the leaders in the Sportingbet Plate (1000m) at Morphettville on Saturday. He split runners in the straight like a real pro to score by three-quarters of length from The Voice (Northern Meteor) and Typhoon (Hard Spun).
“I think he’s a fair dinkum horse,” trainer Chris Bieg claimed. “And like his name suggests, he’s pretty exciting.”
Bieg is prepared to back up that statement and will spirit the winner across the border for the spring carnival. “I was going to nominate him for the Inglis Premier on Cox Plate day,” Bieg said. “But we bought him at the Magic Millions so he’s not eligible.”
There are several other options for Excites Zelady and Bieg has designs on the G3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on the last day of the Flemington carnival.
“He will take plenty of improvement out of Saturday’s win because he went in a little bit fat,” Bieg revealed. “He had to burst through a gap and it got a little bit hairy at one stage. But that proves he’s a confident horse and he’s going to take a huge amount out of it.”
Bieg has rated Excites Zelady highly since he worked on terms with smart stablemate Dashitude. The Dash For Cash filly has won five races and was far from disgraced when fifth behind Snitzerland in the G3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley last month.
Excites Zelady was a $27,000 buy from Ampulla Lodge at the 2012 Adelaide Magic Millions. His dam Zelady won 7 sprints in Melbourne and the provincials for Prime Thoroughbreds and there’s plenty of stamina further back through G2 NZ Great Northern Oaks winner Bound To Honour.
Excites (Danewin) was a G1 winner of the 2006 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and stands at Vinery for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee.
