Trainer Mark Kavangh was lost for words when his Magic Millions graduate Definitely Ready smashed the 1000m track record at Sandown on Wednesday.
The More Than Ready gelding clocked 55.07s in the Over Handicap on the Hillside circuit which the bettered the previous record of 55.24s held by Poet’s Voice.
“I don’t know what to say,” Kavanagh said. “He showed nothing early on but blinkers have made him a different horse. He’s a machine.”
Definitely Ready was a $140,000 purchase at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions and is the latest Kavanagh galloper to emerge from successful South Australian nursery Mill Park Stud.
Other Mill Park graduates from Magic Millions sales to reach racing’s elite level with Kavanagh include Divine Madonna, Devil Moon and Undoubtedly.
Definitely Ready had won on debut in Adelaide by seven lengths and he was served up a $1.60 favourite at Sandown.
His sire More Than Ready has provided the last two winners of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and Golden Slipper – Sebring and Phelan Ready. His dam Defiant (Danehill) is a city winning full sister to black-type sprinter Formal Attire. Second dam Ruffles was a G1 winner of the Newmarket Handicap.
