Group 3 double for Inglis graduates at Newcastle

Inglis graduates continued their winning momentum in black-type events on Wednesday when Lovemelikearock and Absolutelyfabulous completed a Group 3 double at Newcastle.

Spring Stakes winner Lovemelikearock was a $110,000 graduate from the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  She was sold by Coolmore and is the latest stakes winner by their up-and-coming sire Fastnet Rock.

Trained by Anthony Cummings, she joins as Lotteria is the only other filly to win the race.  The Gai Waterhouse filly later developed into a G1 winner and she was also runner-up in a Cox Plate.

Other horses to win the Spring Stakes in the past decade to later taste G1 glory include Shogun Lodge, Universal Prince, Clangalang and Hotel Grand.  Last year’s winner Sousa was also an Inglis graduate and he followed up with a G1 win in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.

Absolutelyfabulous was the second leg of the Inglis G3 double when she won the G3 Cameron Handicap.  The Langfuhr mare was sold for $45,000 at the 2005 Inglis Classic yearling sale.

Absolutelyfabulous was part of Tony Hartnell’s Meringo Stud draft.  She had been runner-up to Forensics in last year’s G1 Myer Classic at Flemington.
