Irish stakes performer Bumbasina was the top-priced buy for FBAA members after the last of more than 900 lots was knocked down at the Tattersalls July Sale on Friday.
Bumbasina made 75,000gns (AUD 140,320) to the bid of Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer. She won at Gowran Park and Killarney last year before progressing to Listed placings in the Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes and Navigation Stakes.
“She ran a lovely race and is very honest,” said trainer Willie McCreery after her maiden win over a mile at Gowran Park. “I liked the way she stuck her head down and galloped on to the line.”
Bumbasina (4f Canford Cliffs – New Plays by Oratorio) is a younger half-sister to G3 Athasi Stakes winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany) and their dam has a northern-hemisphere yearling filly by Coolmore Stud sire Australia.
Le Metayer also purchased Street Cry mare Bound Copy (USA) for 45,000gns (AUD 84,190). She has a 2yo colt named Chairmanoftheboard (Slade Power) and yearling colt by Make Believe but wasn’t covered in 2017.
Bound Copy has impeccable Australian links through her dam In A Bound (Ashkalani) who won a G2 Queen of the Turf Stakes at Rosehill for Gai Waterhouse before being exported in 2007. Her second-dam Bounding Away (Biscay) was Australia’s Champion 2YO in 1986 for owner-breeder Tommy Smith.
Sheamus Mills was also in action at Newmarket paying 24,000gns (AUD 44,900) for Juddmonte Farms 2yo filly Nelum.
An unraced Medicean 2yo, Nelum is from an iconic Juddmonte family and was purchased on behalf of Baystone Farm. Her second-dam Intercontinental (Danehill) won a Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and is one of five Group 1 winners (plus champion sire Dansili) from the bluest of blueblood mares in Hasili (Kahyasi).
Federation of Bloodstock Agents Australia (FBAA) was formed in 1988 to maintain, improve and develop the standards, status and services of bloodstock agents throughout Australia. Its members operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism and are bound by the strict Industry Code of Conduct.
