An Australian buyer jumped at the first opportunity to buy a European based mare in foal to Sea The Stars at the Goffs November Sale on Friday.
Blas Ceoil was purchased by agent Hubie De Burgh for 300,000 euros to top Day 1 at the Co. Kildare sales complex. “She’s been bought for an Australian breeder who wanted a nice, young mare in foal to Sea The Stars and she fitted the bill,” De Burgh said.
“This mare will go down there in January and the foal will eventually race in Australia. She’s a nice, young mare from a very good family.”
Blas Ceoil is carrying a PPT to Champion colt Sea The Stars from a May 27 cover.
Blas Ceoil (4m Mr Greeley – Extraterrestral by Storm Bird) was purchased from Jim Bolger’s Redmondstown Stud. She was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm and won races at Navan and Naas. She is a half sister to the stakes winners Radharcnafarraige (Distorted Humor), Alienated (Gone West) Exhaust Note (A.P. Indy).
Mertoun Paddocks, purchaser of the Foal Sale topper yesterday, signed for the second highest priced mare today when going to €160,000 to secure
Darley mare Lion Forest (Forestry) was second on the leader-board when selling to Mertoun Paddocks for 160,000 euros. She is a sister to G1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes winner Diplomat Lady and is in foal to Dubawi.
Darley also sold winning Gone West mare Paracel for 135,000 euros. She is a daughter of English 1000 Guineas winner Cape Verdi and is in foal to Shamardal.
Goffs reported 164 horses sold on Friday at an average price of 24,751 euros. The clearance rate was 70%. Day 2 of the Goffs November Broodmare Sale continues on Saturday.
