Macedon Lodge founder Kurt Stern has died in Melbourne after a short illness aged 83.
Stern raced Group 1 winners Bel Esprit, Macedon Lady (One Thousand Guineas) and Sober Suit (Toorak Hcp). He was one of the original owners of Bel Esprit along with good friend Brian Donohoe, RVL Chairman Michael Duffy, AFL coach Kevin Sheedy and Eliza Park owner Lee Fleming.
John Symons trained Bel Esprit to Group 1 wins in the Blue Diamond Stakes and Doomben 10,000 at Macedon Lodge. One of Kurt’s finest moments was when he led the colt back to scale after winning the Blue Diamond.
Stern dispersed his racing stock in April 2004 and Macedon Lodge is now owned by Lloyd Williams.
In 1962, Stern founded Neat ‘n’ Trim Uniforms. In 2000, the company was rebranded to NNT Uniforms and three later moved headquarters from Noble Park to a state of the art facility in Keysborough.
Stern’s family and friends will celebrate a life lived to the fullest at the West Brighton Club on Tuesday, November 23.
