More Awesome continued the winning run for Tasmanian juveniles at Morphettville on Monday when he cruised to victory in the Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic (1200m).
Sent out a firm $2.60 favourite, the Dean Wells trained gelding powered home from the back of the field under Clare Lindop to win by over a length from Gone Skiing and Whisper Downs.
More Awesome (2g More Than Ready – Breezer by Royal Academy) was beaten less than a length last start when third in the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes at Launceston. “I thought he should have won it and the form out of the race has been tremendous,” Wells said. “He had Golden Archer off the bit past the furlong.”
Gold Sovereign winner Golden Archer and runner-up Triple Asset have both subsequently won stakes races at Flemington. “He’s a very adaptable horse and winning this race is a great thrill,” Wells added. “I didn’t think he was going to be a two-year-old but he showed plenty of toe so we persevered.”
Wells bought More Awesome for $22,000 at Session 5 of the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale. “He was a nice horse – from his knees up there was a lot to like,” Wells noted. “I’ll be at the (Adelaide) Magic Millions this week trying to buy another one like him.”
More Awesome is a son of Vinery’s international influence More Than Ready – the sire of Golden Slipper winners Sebring and Phelan Ready and Magic Millions Adelaide and Gold Coast Classic winner Augusta Proud.
His dam Breezer was stakes placed in the G2 Magic Night Stakes and Listed Keith Mackay Handicap. She foaled a Testa Rossa colt last September.
