Azamour put down in Ireland

New Zealand shuttler Azamour has died at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in Ireland.  The 13 year-old stallion was put down after sustaining a serious injury in his box on Saturday morning.

Azamour (Night Shift) served his first southern book at Brighthill Farm in Hamilton last year.  Among his Kiwi mares were Triassic, the dam of So You Think.

Azamour (Ire) was a Group 1 winner at Royal Ascot, York, Newbury and Leopardstown after placings in the 2004 English and Irish 2000 Guineas.  His progeny includes unbeaten 2012 French Oaks winner Valyra and Group winners Liber Nauticus, Eleanora Duse, Shankardeh and Native Khan.

He was midway through a ninth northern season at a fee of 8,000 euros.
