Swettenham Stud sire Host (Chi) is all set to break through the $1 million mark this season after Mighty Like won again at Morphettville on Saturday.
Mighty Like (4g Host – Mighty Fine by Keltrice) emerged from a pocket in the straight to improve his record to 4 wins in 10 starts. The Mick Price trained gelding had been in the box seat and, after angling to the clear, he sprinted quickly to score by a length in the Hindmarsh Plumbing Hcp (1400m).
The Host gelding is beginning to fulfil the potential he showed this time last year. “He’s a natural,” stable jockey Dale Smith said after his debut win at Echuca. “There’s plenty of upside and he’s a progressive type.”
Mighty Like travelled to Adelaide following a good win at Geelong last month. He is raced by owner-breeder Julie Nicholson who has been a long-time stable supporter.
Nicholson raced his dam Mighty Fine with Price and she was successful at Sandown (2), Moonee Valley and Caulfield. The mare has a yearling colt by Host and was bred back to Swettenham sire Americain last year.
Host (Hussonet) has sired the winners of over $950,000 so far this season and he’s bubbling just outside the Top 10 on the Australian third-season sires’ premiership.
