Unite and Conquer has firmed into a $5 favourite to give Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) back-to-back victories in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 12.
The strapping son of Hinchinbrook heads pre-post markets following a smashing all-the-way win in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (1100m) on Wednesday.
Now unbeaten in two runs, both at black type level, Unite and Conquer burst from the barriers and established a decent lead during the early and middle stages before getting a slight breather approaching the turn.
As the rest of the field attempted to make ground, the speedy youngster quickened in the straight under Adam Hyeronimus to post a one-length victory over Exhilarates.
Blue Sky Bloodstock’s Julian Blaxland won the 2018 Magic Millions 2YO Classic with Sunlight, a Zoustar filly he purchased for $300,000 on behalf of a ladies syndicate managed by Aquis Farm’s Loretta Fung.
Unite and Conquer (2c Hinchinbrook – Maglissa by Magnus) was an $80,000 buy for Blaxland from Musk Creek Farm. He was acting for Bluebloods Thoroughbreds in conjunction with co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
“He’s going to be a very special colt,” Bott said at Wyong. “He may have raced a bit fresh but showed superior speed. He’s coming off the break and that’s the most pleasing thing, there’s a lot of upside.
“Gai was just commenting that he’s showing all the same qualities that all those special colts had shown before – the Vancouvers, the Pierros, the Sebrings – he’s got a fantastic attitude.”
Musk Creek owner David Kobritz pin-hooked Pierro as a foal and then sold him to Waterhouse for $230,000 at the 2011 Magic Millions.
Mornington peninsula breeder Andrew Goulopoulos has entered a So You Think half brother to Unite and Conquer as Lot 776 at the 2019 Magic Millions. His bloodstock advisor Tim Stewart (FBAA) bought their dam Maglissa, in foal to Hinchinbrook, for $180,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Mare Sale.
