Baker toasts Mr Tipsy

Mr Tipsy could be headed to Australia after winning the Listed Marton Cup at Awapuni on Saturday.   The talented six-year-old was angled into the clear by Opie Bosson at the top of the straight and, with momentum gathered, put paid to his rivals inside the final furlong.

Mr Tipsy (6g Montjeu – Fairy Tipsy by Casual Lies) had a length to spare at the finish over Can’t Keeper Down (Keeper) and He’s Under The Gun (Zabeel).  “We are thrilled to have him back in form,” trainer Bjorn Baker said.  “He’s had a few issues but is a top class horse when right.”

Mr Tipsy can’t be re-handicapped for the G2 Wellington Cup (2400m) at Trentham on January 25 and, all going well, he will then be sent to Tasmania for the Hobart and Launceston Cups in February.

Mr Tipsy was a $41,000 purchase from Windsor Park at the 2006 NZB Premier Yearling Sale.  He has won 8 races and also been placed in the 2009 Auckland and Sydney Cups.

“He’s a great horse to have around the stable,” Baker added.  “He’s so quiet and has a wonderful temperament.  He’s a real favourite.”

Mr Tipsy (NZ) is owned by Matamata based breeder Scott Richardson.  He has previously been involved with black-type racehorses like Fiorenza, Stolen Thunder, Magic Man, Just Anything and Noble Chant.

Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Mr Tipsy is by champion sire Montjeu from Fairy Tipsy who hails directly from the G1 family of Boardwalk Angel and Coogee Walk.  She will be represented by a High Chaparral filly at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale on January 31.
