Planet Rock climbs into contention for Karaka Million

South Island based filly Planet Rock continued her climb up the ladder for the Karaka Million with a comfortable victory at Ellerslie on Saturday.  Trained by Peter and Dawn Williams in Riccarton, she was coming off a promising second to Super Easy on debut at Trentham last month.

Planet Rock (2f Fastnet Rock – Akris by Zabeel) is now 11th in the order of entry for the Karaka Million at Ellerslie on January 30.

The Williams training partnership has already established an impressive record at Ellerslie having won the Auckland Cup, Railway Handicap, Dunstan Final and finishing second in the New Zealand Derby.

Bred and sold by Wellfield Stud’s Bill Gleeson for $290,000 at the Karaka Premier Sale, Planet Rock defeated Heza Rebel (Perfectly Ready) and Flashy Fella (Thorn Park) second-up on Saturday.

She is the first foal of Akris who won up to 2200m at Murray Bridge.  She is a half-sister to Montjeu’s Listed winner Gorky Park (VRC Andrew Ramsden Stakes & Geelong Classic).

Antonio Lombardo (Pins) heads the current Order of Entry for the Karaka Million and there are another five two-year-old events between now and the Ellerslie feature later this month.
