Balmont boost at Waterford Stud

Balmont (USA) received a timely boost following his transfer to Waterford Stud when Balmont Girl won the G3 Asian Beau Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Waterford Stud’s Sue Goodwin is standing Balmont for his initial book at her Coolup nursery.  He was previously based at Lynward Park.

Balmont Girl (4m Balmont – Pocket Aces by Brief Truce) was given time to find her feet by Shaun O’Donnell before cutting loose with a brilliant turn of foot at Ascot.  She had put the writing on the wall with a promising first-up placing in the G3 Northerly Stakes last month.

“That was a sensational run,” trainer Paula Wagg said.  “I knew there was plenty of improvement from her first up run and I was very confident she would finish in the first two.”

Balmont Girl had won the G3 WA Oaks in March and closed her classic campaign with a creditable fourth in the G2 WA Derby.  She has won 5 times in 18 starts for owner Cooni Chua and has banked over $477,800 in prizemoney.

Balmont (Stravinsky) won the G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket as a two year-old and he initially shuttled from Tara Stud in Ireland before settling in Western Australia on a permanent basis.

The best of his Irish-bred gallopers has been Balmont Mast, a stakes winner at the Curragh and runner-up in last year’s G1 Golden Shaheen at Meydan.

Broodmares owners can call Sue Goodwin for bookings to Balmont on 0427 332 442.
