Perth’s leading trainer Neville Parnham predicted a bright future for bargain buy Roebuck following his win at Belmont on Saturday.
Roebuck (2c Husson Lightning – Last Temptation by Distant Music) led home a stable quinella in the second division of the Initial Plate (1000m). He cruised in by almost two lengths from Star Glitter (Mutawaajid) and Settlers Creek (Discorsi).
“He’s always shown potential,” Parnham said. “He only had the one trial but I knew he was well educated. He’s a pretty smart horse.”
Parnham purchased Roebuck for $5,000 out of the Heytesbury Stud draft at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions. He is from an unraced half sister to Group sprinter The Expat.
His sire Husson Lightning (Hussonet) was bred for speed winning the G2 VRC Maribyrnong Plate and finishing second in the G2 Slipper Stakes and Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Husson Lightning stands alongside Saxon (Danehill) and Ouqba (Red Ransom) at Heytesbury Stud. The trio are all priced at $5,500 (inc gst) service fees.
