Vital victory at Belmont

Vital Art commenced Perth’s new juvenile season with an impressive win at Belmont on Saturday.

Bred and sold by Mungrup Stud, she won the first division of the Initial Plate (1000m) by a length from Castle Retreat.  The runner-up is a son of Mungrup champion Oratorio (Aus).  Third placed Castle Retreat (Kendel Star) was another length away.

“Her first trial was over the 400 metres and they were all a bit green but her second trial was really good,” trainer Eric Wake said.  “She’s bred to stay as well so she should only get better.”

Vital Art (2f Vital Equine – Xaaristic by Xaar) hails from the family of WA based stars Destroy, Hardrada, Ranger, Storm Alert and Lawmaker.  Her dam Xaaristic has a yearling filly by Mungrup sire Hala Bek and an Oratorio filly foaled on October 10.  The mare is booked to Oratorio again this season.

Vital Art is by Touchstone Farm sire Vital Equine (Danetime) who was a G2 winner of the 2006 Champagne Stakes at York.  He stands alongside Flying Pegasus and Planet Five.
