Rangeview Stud sire Henny Hughes can launch his Sunspeed stud career with a Group 1 winner in the USA come September.
Beholder (2f Henny Hughes – Leslie’s Lady by Tricky Creek) broke her maiden with a devastating on-pace victory at Del Mar on Sunday. The Richard Mandella trainee scored by more than three lengths clocking 63.60s for 1100 metres.
The Henny Hughes filly is raced by Spendthrift Farm after changing hands for $180,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale. She improved sharply off a debut fourth behind exciting youngster Executiveprivilege (First Samurai) at Hollywood Park last month.
Beholder is a half-sister to G1 CashCall Futurity winner Into Mischief and she holds a G1 nomination for the Del Mar Debutante on September 1. Into Mischief was also trained by Mandella and he is now based at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky.
Henny Hughes (USA) was a G2 winner of the Saratoga Special Stakes at two and the G1 Vosburgh Stakes and G1 King’s Bishop Stakes as a three year-old before shuttling to Darley in NSW.
He has sired 7 first-crop two year-old winners in Australian so far this season. Rangeview Stud’s Robbie Gray will stand him for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee this year.
