Rick Hore-Lacy topped Session 5 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions after paying $225,000 for a Bel Esprit colt.
The Caulfield trainer has won Group 1 races with Magic Millions graduates Dash for Cash and Toorak Toff. His colt from Jezeera was presented by Eliza Park and is from a winning sister to Flemington stakes winner Belle Ball (Jetball).
Sunday’s trade of $6.96 million dipped 5% from 2011 despite an extra 19 sales. The average price of $39,588 was down 16%. The clearance rate improved two points to 78%.
A large crowd was on hand for the session which saw yearlings sold to buyers from most Australian states as well as overseas locations such as Macau, Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Korea, Ireland and Japan.
“It’s been a solid day’s selling,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “The clearance rate strong and the quality lots attracted strong interest.”
The 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will conclude with Session 6 on Tuesday.
